1940-1944 United States Lawn Tennis Association U.S. National Championships Women’s Singles Challenge Trophy

During a time when many tournaments paused during World War II, the U.S. National Championship Tournament was still able to be held. During these five years, three Hall of Famers took home the trophy, Alice Marble, Sarah Palfrey Cooke, and Pauline Betz, who won the trophy three consecutive times, retiring the trophy in 1944.
