1945-1950 United States Lawn Tennis Association U.S. National Championships Women’s Singles Challenge Trophy

Although the United States Lawn Tennis Association women’s singles tournament did not pause during World War II, much of international tennis did. In the years following, tennis experienced a resurgence, with new stars rising up, and fan favorites from before the war returning to the court. This period of the USLTA women’s singles champions were dominated by Americans, and the trophy was won by Sarah Palfrey Cooke, Pauline Betz, Louise Brough, and thrice by Margaret Osborne (duPont), to end the trophy’s tenure.
