1982 Roland-Garros Men’s Singles Championship Trophy presented to Mats Wilander


Mats Wilander, the unseeded 17-year old from Sweden, defeated former champion Guillermo Vilas 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-0, 6-4 to win the first of his seven major singles titles. In 1981, the Roland-Garros Championships trophy was redesigned to its current form with the name “Coupe des Mousquetaires” or “The Musketeers’ Trophy” named in honor of the Four Musketeers in French tennis history, Jacques Brugnon, Jean Borotra, Henri Cochet, and René Lacoste.
