The Magnolia Tournament, an open-tournament held at the Magnolia Lawn Tennis Club in Massachusetts, began in 1898. Clarence Budlong won in 1898, and in 1899, Dwight Davis successfully challenged Budlong to win the title 7-5, 6-4, 6-3. Davis won the following two years, retiring this trophy.
